Alcoholism

  • What is the topic you are reading about? Alcoholism
  • What is the source citation? "Alcoholism." Opposing Viewpoints Online Collection. Detroit: Gale, 2014. Opposing Viewpoints in Context. Web. 7 Oct. 2015
  • Summarize the central idea of the overview in one or two sentences. Alcohol can effect the body in ways no one understands.
  • List two to four specific details that support the central idea. Alcohol is the more addicting thing someone and its also one of the most dangerous. When your drunk for a while and you go to sleep, the next day you won't remember what happened.
  • Create an opportunity for further research by writing down two questions the text raises about the central idea (explicitly or implicitly). Explicit means stated clearly and in detail, leaving no room for confusion or doubt, while implicit means implied though not plainly expressed. 1) what are the effects of drinking alcohol? 2) what is the signs of someone drunk?
  • Write down one word or phrase whose meaning you do not fully understand. Alcohol
  • Next, write down what may be preventing you from understanding it (is it an unrecognizable term? an unfamiliar person, place, or allusion?) Alcohol is a type of drink.
  • Write one question about the overview that you can pose to your peers in a discussion. Why do you think people drink alcohol?

    1. Donnell, you must write in your own words. These are not your words: "Long-term heavy drinking can lead to alcohol addiction and a condition known as alcoholism, a disease in which the effects of drinking alcohol become worse over time. Alcohol addiction involves a physical and psychological dependence or need for alcohol." These are also not your own words: "The abuse of alcohol is very costly to society. In the United States, alcohol-related diseases, accidents, lost time from work, and rehabilitation cost billions of dollars each year. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) estimated there were 75,766 alcohol-related deaths in 2001. In addition to its role in about 39 percent of all motor vehicle fatalties in 2005, alcohol abuse also contributes to injuries and deaths from falls, drowning, fires, and violence, and more recent studies show that alcohol-related deaths are on the rise." I need you to redo this and I will give you full credit for the assignment when you do.

    2. Donnell, you changed this, which is great, but you could do more writing.
